[Sorry, he's pretty sure that was the right thing to say as he just gloats at Alan's situation for the umpteenth time.]

I wouldn't say that. But I mean, what would a writer like you know about building up tension, letting things build until they hit a satisfying climax?

[He moves over to Alan again, a smirk on his face while he mixes innuendo with mockery. Alan not the only one who can be bitchy, it seems.]

You gotta work for that payoff! You can't just give it to them right away, right?

[Alan can't help the eye roll. It's not even good innuendo! Granted, he's not entirely sure Scratch is capable of good innuendo.]

The only payoff you care about is your own, Scratch. At least I can say my books get positive reviews.

I don't know about positive, but I'd say my work's pretty impactful. Life changing sometimes.

[Alan knew distracting Scratch wouldn't work forever, but he was hoping it'd last a little longer. Worn out from struggling against the Darkness, all Alan can do is meet Scratch's gaze.]

Finally, and here I thought you were going to bore me to death.

Yeah, bet you were hoping for that. But no, I'm not gonna bore you, you can say a lot of things about me, but I've never bored any of my partners.

[A grin there because he's just such an asshole. Stepping forward, he'll reach out, putting one hand on Alan's hair, just the worst most unasked for headpat imaginable. And his other hand to front of his pants.]

[Alan tries to jerk his head away from that headpat, because why wouldn't he? Unfortunately, the darkness is too tight, forcing him to suffer the indignity.]

Rendering them catatonic isn't better.

[He knows he looks ridiculous, grumbling while being headpat by Scratch of all people.]

[That said, he'll leave Alan's hair alone (for now).

Instead he'll busy himself with...well, himself. Making a little bit of a show of it since he's nice and close, fondling himself a couple times while his (Alan's?) junk out.]

[It both is and isn't nothing he hasn't seen before. Sure, he's seen it plenty from above, even different angles from one of Alice's more... experimental periods. But in front of his own face and in the flesh? Absolutely not.

It's also a sobering reminder of where this encounter has been leading to the entire time. Alan glances up at Scratch, down at his... their? dick and back up at Scratch.]

Though I've got to wonder, is that how Alice and you talk in bed? There a degradation kink here?

[Alan only sees the smug look on Scratch's face because he's trying to look anywhere but at his - their - dick. He wants so badly to defend Alice's honour, because how dare Scratch talk about his wife, but anything he says will just egg the doppelganger on.]

Shouldn't you already know the answer to that? Some doppelganger you are.

[Keep him distracted, don't let him think about the fact he has his dick in his hand.]

Hey, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here. Not like I'm watching you all the time...just...well, not all the time.

[He won't say how much, Alan and Alice can worry about that either more or realistically about the same amount probably.]

[The only good thing to come from knowing Scratch is watching them is the fact Alice will definitely have some very choice words for the doppelganger when she finds out.
